The Picture on my Desk

Years ago for Christmas, my parents gave me a digital picture frame. By the time I decided I would never use it and took it back to Best Buy, it was past the return deadline so I kept it.

Last year I finally found a use for it: it now sits on my desk at work, rotating pictures of me with Brett, or of just him, with a couple vacation pics for good measure. I periodically add new photos to the flash-drive it uses. It’s fascinating to me, watching us progress from just dating, to our wedding, to comfortably married and vacation pics, over and over again all day.

Why did I choose to do that? I know what he looks like, and it’s not like he travels for work and is gone for days at a time. But you know what? It always makes me smile. No matter what is happening in my day, I glance slightly to my left and see the grin of someone who loves me, FOR me, and remember…

  • The world is not, in fact, out to get me.
  • This workday will end.
  • I have to tell him that funny thing that just happened.
  • Someone in this world knows the true me, and it’s okay.
  • People can be surprisingly great.

Do you struggle to remember you are loved? It's very easy to feel unlovable, but you are loved. If you can, I highly recommend a digital photo-frame as a way to remind yourself of that fact!

  1. I have always wanted one of those digital frames. I should get one to remind myself how much I was loved by the greatest man I ever knew. I miss him so much that having him flash by in a digital frame would be comforting.

  2. I got one for my parents for Christmas like, 4 years ago. It's still in the box. I think they tried to return it too.

    1. You should set it up with a photo of yourself next time you're at their house. Caption it: "Your favorite child" and watch your siblings add their photos.

  3. Yeah, I have one of those too. Sitting in a box, gathering dust. Or maybe at this point mold. I really should set it up. Seeing things like that make me smile, too. However, I usually just get that by using the gallery on my cellphone. Or looking directly at her face (we both work from home).

    1. My sister has hers set up with just one static photo. So boring.
If you see the person's face live, yeah. Probably not such a big deal for the frame!

  4. I always meant to buy one of those! Me and my lady like to send each other music through Spotify to remind us of each other. Whenever I feel down, or I'm having a bad day, I can just listen to a playlist of the music she has sent me. Music that reminds her of me or of us. It's really nice :)

    1. That is so sweet! A modern-day mix tape.

I tried to think of what would be "our song" one day, and could only come up with, maybe the Psycho theme or Jaws.

  5. I have a digital photo frame at work too! I included some memes too, just to keep myself smiling. Oddly enough, one of my sister's pictures was on there and one of my favorite coworkers spotted it earlier this year (he thought she was awfully pretty) so I snapchatted her his picture and they've been dating for months now. Digital photo frames can change lives, I tell you!

    1. That's awesome! I like the idea of memes. Maybe if I added my brother with his two adorable girls, I could set him up...

  6. I keep waiting for some of the naked pictures to make their way onto it.

    1. Not while it's at work.
      I actually like my job!

I enjoy a good debate. Feel free to shake things up. Tell me I'm wrong. Ask me why I have such a weird opinion. ...or, just laugh and tell how this relates to you and your life.
