Real quick thought for today:
It's almost 5:00pm. I ate fruit early (8-ish) before we went to look at a house, then as soon as we got back I was STARVING, so we grabbed lunch to bring home from the tiny little hole-in-the-wall place near us: rice and tofu and egg and veg. That was before 11am.
I was cautious about eating "lunch" so early, but everything is closed here from about 12:30-3:00, so if I didn't I would probably have had to eat my shoe. (or potato chips, something bad for me).
I just now realized that I'm not even hungry now when I should be!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Listen to your body. Eat when you're hungry, not at the "right" time.
Yeah, it's better to eat when you're hungry and not at a prescribed time. That is, if your schedule's your own. There are times when I can't eat due to work.

DeleteI prescribe to the eating when I'm hungry but I don't have a town that closes down from 12:00-3:00. You have to make sure there is healthy food in the apartment I guess.
ReplyDeleteTrue! In China, nuts were so easy to keep on hand, but I haven't found that here yet. There are cashews everywhere, but so pricey! They are a big tourist purchase in our area.
DeleteYeah, we're getting closer to figuring it out, but Vietnam eats when it eats and we have to get on board or miss out.

DeleteA friend of mine on his first visit to China wasn't used to Chinese-style family dining and strangely didn't realize how much he was under-eating until he started getting headaches.

True - it is impossible to gauge your serving sizes in China. But yeah, I'm more likely to feel hungry before feeling a headache!
DeleteWe tend to eat at pretty much "normal" eating times - but sometimes I can be starving and other times I can get caught up in something and completely forget til hours later. I guess that's one of the benefits of not needing to buy our meals - there's always something in the fridge or pantry.
ReplyDeleteI've been a grazer for years. I was known for snacks at my work desk: yogurt was mid-morning, peanuts and fruit mid-afternoon. Now I have no set schedule, no employment contract telling me how long I can take for lunch or when I can take it.
