It's been over a week since I wrote! Shame on me. At least I have a
It's bad because I spend so much time playing a stupid game, but it is honestly helping me learn Mandarin! I have my little phrasebook/dictionary, and am learning to translate the characters on the tiles. I can even write my numbers now, and immediately recognize each individually for what it translates as, without having to run through the list 1-10. And the directions. I know my north, south, east and west, too, although I can't draw them all yet.
After a fairly stressful week finding out there were YET MORE documents we needed - and a near meltdown thinking "What have we gotten ourselves into?" - all of our paperwork went out on Monday. Now we wait. Could be 3 weeks before we have approval to apply for work visas. We're hoping they can rush it. On this end, the visas are just a 4 day process. So that's okay.
At my job, I hope to begin training my replacement on Monday. Things are moving along in every area, it seems. I've just not been writing about it. Well, I have... just not finalizing any posts, to be honest. I did so well posting during the A-to-Z Challenge. I think I just need to set up a schedule for writing/posting.
My grandson is always telling me the things he learns from playing his Xbox games. So I will share this with him. I know it will make him smile! I cannot imagine all the red tape you have to go through for this move!!
ReplyDeleteI married an Xbox guy. After watching him play one, I am amazed at how he can keep his eyes on everything that's on the screen at once. I tried a game, but have too much of a laser-focus to catch what's coming in the corner!
DeleteI love Mahjong, it's the only game I play on my phone. Never thought to use it to learn the language. That's great.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with everything.
Ha! I won't put it on my phone, but use the computer or my tablet. They're at least a little less accessible!
DeleteVery well stated without getting into the actual nightmare we are experiencing to get everything done.
ReplyDeleteOne day!
One day!
One delay!

haha. jk. not really. But I'm smiling.
Good for you! I spent years learning Russian but always felt super intimidated by the Asian languages. I'm so excited to hear about all your adventures when you move! Do you know which city you're moving to?
ReplyDeleteWe are moving to Beijing. If things start falling into place, we should be there in about six weeks.
DeleteIt is a very intimidating language, but I'm convinced there will be enough gringos around to help us, at the start at least!
