Pardon the Interruption

We interrupt this blog to read
The Hunger Games

I started this morning and am almost halfway through it. (And that, with a several-hour interruption for interviewing and dress-fitting.) It is a very easy read.

(...and yes, I'm squandering a precious post to tell you all this. Rolling merrily along to the 100th...)

  1. I cannot force myself through it. I've seriously picked it up a half dozen times, read a page, and then said, 'this is bad', and put it back down again.

Maybe I'll just wait for your synopsis :)

    1. Well, it is written so that an adolescent can understand it, so it's definitely "simple" reading.

  2. "Rolling merrily along to the 100th..." lol... you're so funny.

I probably won't try this book - but I would love to read Jenny Lawson's!

    1. I mention this to you on my blog but I enjoy repeating myself. One of the ladies I gave the award to, Becky, is going to Sri Lanka for a week. I was just at her blog and she said she'll be taking a lot of pictures and posting about it.

I know you don't have much blogging time now - but whenever things sort out a bit I think you would enjoy checking her out.

    2. I will check it out. Part of me wants desperately to go back to Sri Lanka, but I'm afraid it will be so different it will just make me sad.

  3. I am tackling that book as soon as I finish the one I am reading now.

    1. It's easy for me to put down, because I've seen the movie, but most people call it "unputdownable".

  4. I I have no interest in reading it. Very happy to take your word for it.

Many people have told me they have read it in only a few sittings, still, I have no motivation to read it.

    1. I will happily relate my impressions upon completion.

  5. Loved the manga (Battle Royale), loved the book, but have yet to see the film...

    1. I read the first of Battle Royale...seems only very loosely similar in that kids kill each other. ...which to me does not seem to be the real theme of Hunger Games. At all.

      But more on that later.

  6. Do you find yourself putting the book down and saying "really?" "Really?" I did that a lot. Just don't fall into a plot hole.

    1. I have the advantage of already having seen the movie, so, no, I'm not really saying that.

  7. I just started the book and I'm addicted. I'm just happy when a new popular book is actually good (I'm looking at you, Twilight).

    1. I probably could have avoided it if I hadn't seen the movie first. Then again, a quick read is good for summertime, so maybe I'd have gotten around to it anyway.

  8. I found it quite enjoyabel and a really quick read. I think I read it within about 2 days time. I didn't enjoy the movie as much as the book. I think doing it your way is probably better.

    1. I finished earlier this evening. I think I'm glad I saw the movie first...gave some perspective of what was happening outside the arena.

  9. My mom is reading it, she'll let me know how good it is. We used to swap books all the time, now we both use e-books so no more swapping. I look forward to your take on it.

    1. Depending on what kind of e-reader you have, you could still exchange. On my Nook, some books are stamped "lend me" so I can send them to another person's Nook.

I actually borrowed the book from my mom, who had borrowed it from another friend.

    2. I have a Kindle Fire or I use the Kindle app on my phone. I've heard that some library's are checking out books like that but my local one hasn't done it yet. I think the author or publisher has to agree before it can be shared. I just figured newer or popular books wouldn't get permission to be shared. I might have to pay more attention.

  10. So have you finished it? What did you think? I finished the first one, but I only read the first chapter of the second book.

I enjoy a good debate. Feel free to shake things up. Tell me I'm wrong. Ask me why I have such a weird opinion. ...or, just laugh and tell how this relates to you and your life.
