Beware the Ides of…Anything!

“Reason to Celebrate”!

I know, I predicted I wouldn’t be posting today, but I forgot about the Ides of March – how could I let today pass without a mention?

Did you know that every month has an “Ides”? Fact. It’s the middle of the month – the 15th or 13th, depending on the month in the ancient Roman calendar.
~~~I’m sure you’re relieved that I’m here to tell you these things!
~~~ For full details, visit Cranky&Difficult, here.

I don’t know what the traditional celebration involves for the Ides of March. Well, except for stabbing emperors. …Which I will TOTALLY do for you if you need me too! (I’m obsessed with sharp things, as we all know.)

For myself, I wasn’t kidding yesterday when I said I was taking the whole afternoon off. My office-mate and I are going out for a late lunch and then going up to a local Craft Brewery to take the tour. It’s time for me to start saying good-bye to the places and things I’ll miss about Delaware, and Dogfishhead is one of them. (no, I’m not on the payroll, but I’ve shared this nectar of the gods with all my family. Check them out, they’re sold in most states now.)

This will be my third time taking the tour. Dogfishhead is not only really good, flavorful, unique beer, but they are an environmentally friendly company and the tour is very cool.

So for the Ides of March I’ll drink like an emperor – in terms of quality at any rate. Definitely their "Midas Touch" (especially 'cause it's warm and lovely out, and this is the perfect brew for out back on the deck) and I might have to try the "Theobroma" ("food of the gods") if it's in production, because didn't the Caesars claim to be gods? How will you honor the day?

Tomorrow you really won’t hear from me. Remember that meeting that caused my major office faux pas a few weeks ago? That meeting is tomorrow, all day at the other end of the state. (teehee, the fun of living in such a small state. >sigh< I really will miss the bragging rights of “second smallest state in the union”!)

I’ll be back on St. Patrick’s Day, if there’s anything left to say!
Party on, dudes...and "Beware the Ides of March"!

  1. You don't have to remind either of us about Dogfishhead. We're both big fans. Great beer. And question: if you drink like an emperor, does that entitle us to stab you?

    1. Hey, stab away - I won't feel a thing!

My B-I-L makes mead, and he and my sister love the DFH mead-style beers (I guess) like Black & Blue and Red & White. Can you guys find the smaller production brews out there? I'm sure they ship the main brews like Shelter Pale Ale, the IPAs, and Chicory Stout.

    1. I know you're vegetarian, so I hope it won't offend you for me to tell you that they feed the leftover ...solids - I can't remember if that's the "wort" - from the brewing process to the cattle on the farms that supply the beef for the burgers that they serve at the pub. Lots of really good grains in that cattle-feed!

(I don't eat beef, but I think it's really cool how they close the loop, so to speak.)

  3. Well you do make me laugh! I'm not offended at all, always nice to use things up to the last drop. I don't drink either actually - never tried alcohol at all. But sometimes, when I read posts like this, I have to say that it sounds like I might be missing out ;-)

    1. Just for you Bozo: "I like liquor - its taste and its effects - and that is just the reason why I never drink it." ~Thomas Jackson

(I was looking for a quotation from Ben Franklin this morning. Couldn't find it, but found a lot of good ones!)

    2. But what does it mean? It's too deep for me lol

    3. You should check out the link I gave to Cranky&Difficult. He's got all the details. Basically, Caesar was assassinated on the "Ides" (or 15th) of March.

A very famous line from Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar is "Beware the Ides of March" ...which is probably why the Ides of March is famous at all. Otherwise it would have faded into ancient Roman obscurity.

    4. Thanks :)

By the way, I've posted something asking people to help vote for a fellow blogger who wants to go to space - but for some reason it's not showing in your blog list. So... just letting you know in case you don't mind voting for her :-)

    6. Thank you! I'll probably tackle it next week. I'm at (lunch break of) a seriously annoying meeting. Hopefully it will provide me with a good post for tomorrow!

    7. Awww poor you. But I suppose there's a sort of grim satisfaction you get out of it when contemplating the post.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for sharing your thoughts. Definitely something I hadn't considered.

    1. That's what I'm here for - to provide random reasons to celebrate! (well, sometimes.) If you really want details about the day, you should visit Cranky&Difficult at the link I gave.

Also - your ID photo? I could totally cross-stitch that on a pillow for you.

  5. I knew there was an Ides in every month, but just thought it was the 15th. I did not know it was the middle day.

I hope you are having fun tonight. Don't have so much fun that you can't make it to your meeting tomorrow.

    1. The tour was great, but I'm regretting bringing it back to my place for "dessert" and inviting another friend. I'm sitting here listening to them complain about work. I've been out of the conversation for more than an hour and they don't get it. Ah well.

    2. ...murphy's law. They finally caught on, when I was typing on my phone, that I was no longer a part of the conversation. Yeesh.

    3. So are they going to include you now...or leave?

    4. They left in between those two comments. I'd already put away the cheese and crackers, taken aspirin and taken out my contacts. I love both these women and they'd be welcome to stay, I just have no interest in talking about work for THAT long after hours.

One said as she was getting ready to leave, "but we don't get together very much!" Which to me means we should catch up on each other, not on work.

    1. It was great. I took pictures. Not sure if I'll be able to post it tomorrow or Monday.

Then we came home and made beer-floats.

    2. We can wait for the pictures, we're in no rush. :P

    3. They're pretty fun. There was a guy with a star wars t-shirt on, so I tried to get him in as many as I could. Lol.

  7. Micro breweries rock.

I am in a big wine region, and I'm not that big a fan of wine, it did smother the beer industry for a while, but the demand for good, non mass produced beer has increase in the last few years and the local scene is getting better.

I will let you know if I find any Fish head here :p

    1. You can go to www(dot)dogfish(dot)com and click on the fish finder to find out if they ship to Australia. There are a few countries outside the US that they ship to.

I enjoy a good debate. Feel free to shake things up. Tell me I'm wrong. Ask me why I have such a weird opinion. ...or, just laugh and tell how this relates to you and your life.
