Wondering

On January 24th, I came across this statement/quote?/meme somewhere and jotted it down. (unattributed, sorry.)

"Six months from now, you could be in a completely different space - mentally, physically, spiritually, fnancially. Keep believing."

At that point, we were beginning to look for a larger apartment in Beijing, so I knew I'd be in a different physical space. I just didn't know how different!

  • I'm no longer working - well, a little bit, for people in Beijing, but nothing here yet.
  • My lungs are happier with Da Nang air. I feel I'm healthier from the climate and from my new exercise habits.
  • I'm not eating well, though. I used to get a salad a day, now I get so many carbs! But I eat less, because of the hot climate.
  • I'm back at square one, language-wise!

I can't help but think how everything will be different, again, at the end of the year.

  • We'll be in a new, bigger apartment.
  • I'm working on my business idea, but it will probably not be official until sometime in 2019 - such a layout of expense!
  • I should know more of the language, although I'm not formally studying it.
  • We will have found places to shop for the things we need and want.
  • I hope to find somewhere to buy clothes in non-tiny Asian sizes!
  • Who knows what social changes are in store? I already have more friends here to hang out with than I did in Beijing.
What am I hoping for? Pizza, the necessary ingredients and utensils to bake, fruits and vegetables, a comfortable mattress. Not much, really.

We all have these moments of future-thought, don't we? Not to dwell on the future, but maybe during goal-setting, maybe after a big change, isn't it kind of important to consider where we think we'll be next year? What might happen in the intervening time? What are our expectations? Where do we hope our lives will be?

  1. Wow- that kind of stopped me cold. I cannot imagine the state my self-esteem would be in if I had to shop in "Asian-sizes-only" stores...
I think I'll stop thinking about that now.

    1. I haven't attempted any clothes purchases here. Found a few tops in Beijing. Bathing suits are everywhere here, too. That's going to be a hard one!

  2. I remember trying to buy some of those cute Asian pj's when we were there on vacation. Ha! Ha! They fit my granddaughters but not me!!

    1. I want those, too! At least I don't have to worry about long pants here. Not in this climate!

  3. Amazing how much has changed for you in six months. Glad you're settling in. It sounds like it's been a good move.

    1. I bet for all of us, if we clocked the last 6 months, or made a note to track the next 6, we'd see a lot of change.

  4. Red,

Thanks for boogieing with me at my place! I hope we're in a new home before the end of the end but honestly I don't see that happening with our VERY picky nature in what we want in our next home. We've been in this place for 38 years so we know what we like and don't like. That's something we had no clue on when we bought this place eons ago. But, you...have made quite a few changes in your life in a short order which makes me think our youngest daughter (DD#2) and son-in-law's (SIL) situation. They moved to Maine last November. My SIL had a job already in place. DD#2 did not. They didn't even have a place to live until after they got there and it took them almost three weeks. Now, they're in the process of buying their first home which means if all goes well another move. It's definitely an exciting time for them and I couldn't be happier for them. Asian clothing sizes are crazy small and this is coming from someone who buys small to X-small clothes. I can't wait to hear about your home-based business. I think it's wonderful and adventurous of you. Best of luck to ya! ;)

    1. When we moved to Beijing, we thought we had jobs lined up, and sort of did, but we were completely at the mercy of others to help us find a residence. I do hope that this next move will be the last for a while!

  5. Well you've had a lot more and a lot bigger changes than I've had in the last 6 months Red, but at the same time, nothing stays still. Life continues to evolve and I love that we can move with it and end up in a better and brighter place. Even if it seems that nothing much is happening, there is still lots going on in the lives of those we love and that adds to the mix. Our son and DIL are about to produce our second grandbaby - just seeing the changes in the 2 years our granddaughter has been alive amazes me (you don't have time to watch when it's your own child) and soon another one to love. Life is good isn't it? PS I'm excited for you for what is still to come.

    1. Congrats on the 2nd grandbaby!

Isn't it funny how physical change dominates over other changes? Just because it's the most noticeable. A new grandbaby is a big change - but think of the joy, the love, the emotional changes that will come with that!

  6. A stranger in an elevator once told me that by planning for the future I was "wishing my life away". Which was a rude thing to say to anyone, let alone a stranger. Where would we be if we didn't plan for the future?
Sure, plans don't always pan out and I enjoy surprises, but I don't want to leave everything to chance.

    1. I'm getting to a point where I do less planning and more praying. To quote Ferris Bueller: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around, you could miss it."

I enjoy a good debate. Feel free to shake things up. Tell me I'm wrong. Ask me why I have such a weird opinion. ...or, just laugh and tell how this relates to you and your life.
