Wednesday Poetry Corner: Planning Ahead

Unpredictable
Sunglasses and umbrella
Bring both, just in case.

(Haiku written by me September 12, 2026)

I spoke this haiku into my voice recording app as I was leaving the house one day. It's not a complaint! It's actually refreshing to know either could happen. I just like to be prepared.

One day I didn't bring my umbrella because the clouds were just scattered around, and a massive downpour happened while I sat looking out at it from the restaurant.

When I post personal haiku, it's usually from the same day or the day before. But I'm traveling from the 22nd to 26th and wanted to be sure I have something ready to go up. If you don't read this until October, it's because I came up with one on the spot!

  1. I've had days like that. I always carry the sunglasses, because it's likely they'll be needed. But I've had many days when I left the umbrella in the car because I thought the sky wouldn't open up, and then it did.

    1. Oh, I see things haven't been updating in your sidebar. I did post something new today, not just two weeks ago.

    2. Because my street runs east-west, I've learned that in the mornings I should always have my sunglasses, as I have to walk east to get to the main road, but usually the rain holds off until later. Usually.

  2. Sunglasses and an umbrella - sounds a lot like Alabama weather, too.

    1. Does it! Alabama and Louisiana are the two US states I haven't seen yet. Not even driven through or landed in an airport.

I enjoy a good debate. Feel free to shake things up. Tell me I'm wrong. Ask me why I have such a weird opinion. ...or, just laugh and tell how this relates to you and your life.
